while my day-to-day listening often includes a lot of hip hop, I have a MAJOR soft spot for anything influenced by jazz, funk, or soul.

album log
by Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist
listened 29 July, 2025
There is nothing more smooooth than the alchemist production, its unfair. Words that come to mind with this project are luxurious, smooth, lush, decidant, etc. Not to mention the features, how you gonna get anderson paak, larry june, and jid? Not fair.
favs:
Feeling, Ensalada, Gold Feet, 1995

Culturally, musically, and lyrically LUSH. A real HIP HOP, hip hop record by a rap duo from before my time. The flows, lyricism and storytelling is outstanding, got me emotional in the first track. Pharrell's hooks are incredible too and don't get me started on the features.
favs:
P.O.V., So Be It, E.B.I.T.D.A, The Birds Don't Sing

by Quadeca
listened 27 July, 2025
Quadeca's continuous passion towards his craft is nothing short of inspiring. With every new project he seems to constantly experiement and hone his already extremely unique style and I can't get enough of it. Not to mention the movie he made along with it. Close your eyes and float away music.
favs:
GODSTAINED, MONDAY, CASPER

by Tyler, The Creator
listened 21 July, 2025
Took me a couple listens to really get into but all in all Tyler can't miss. More of a dance/vibe, less conceptual record and I'm here for it, can't wait for his concert
favs:
Sucka Free, Sugar On My Tongue, Ring Ring Ring

by McKinsley Dixon
listened 11 June, 2025
Most maximalist jazz hip hop album I've heard, instrumentals amazing every song and cool concept throughout.
favs:
Could've Been Different, Sugar Water, Recitatif
